DAY 13 – MAY 26th Tybee Island Beach, Georgia

Today is Ekadishi and my first fast of the trip. Ekadishi means “11th day” and fasting that day is recommended in the teachings of Bhagavad Gita and the Krishna Consciousness movement. It falls on the 11th day of the waxing and waning of the moon. I will take it easy today, so as to minimize the need for food. We break fast the next morning, and you are allowed to eat fruits, milk, juice, nuts and seeds. I will eat that, once a day after sunset. Today the sun sets at 8:22pm.

The same hitch at the back of the Fifth Wheel that carries our bicycles fit on the hitch in the back of the truck with an adapter. We loaded our bikes on the truck and headed to Tybee Island. It was a long 45 min drive.

The Island is very small and easy to bike ride through. The beach was very busy. It had a island theme and a southern vibe to it. The sign said “It’s a peach of a beach!” – and that was exactly what it was. We parked our bikes on the pier and checked out people fishing, surfing the waves and kite boarding. I took a lovely video. We had not pack any swimming gear and I was biking and fasting.

Some people park outside the island bridge and ride their bike the whole way in. The town of Tybee is very clear about no parking anywhere anytime without paying. … Not a bad way to discourage driving. I remembered Holbox Island in Mexico (pronounced Hall Bosh). They did not allow cars period. You had to leave your car at the ferry and rent reverse braking single gear bicycles or a golf carts.

The people in USA in general are very patriotic and large flags are not uncommon, even on bicycles.

There were also lots of people fishing from the piers. When we asked this girl if she eats the fish, she said no, she uses it as bait for shark!!

After biking through the island, we headed back to Savannah to get more ice cream from Leopolds. I was fasting and tomorrow is a travel day, we skipped the idea of picking up a few pints as the line up was twice as long as yesterday. Instead we biked a little more in Savannah. We noticed palms trees growing inside the live oaks. It just looks so beautiful.

When we returned to the South Savannah KOA campsite, children were looking up and taking pictures of these strange birds high up on the trees.

I finished booking the 4th Leg of our trip. There are some complications in the timings that I hope to iron out as we get closer. For example I would like us to spend at least 2 days IN the Yellowstone National Park instead of just driving through it. Also I have not figured out the best stop to make for the Grand Canyon. It is so confusing when large National Parks like these traverses over 3 states. For example, the Great Smoky Mountains saw us go through North Carolina and Tennessee 3 times.

5th Leg

We are very grateful to be able to live our dreams in an organic, connected way. How do you want to live your dream? Call me to show you how.

Rent an RV, pack a camper or pitch a tent. Don’t forget to give thanks to the almighty in any way you believe and plan to do some unconditional devotional service to Him. Fasting is one way. Chanting his glories, teaching and distributing His books, building places to encourage his worship, worshiping and eating and sharing only foods first offered to Him are other ways to perform bhakti yoga. I come away with a renewed commitment to have more association with devotees. Covid-19 has removed the association of anything with divinity and I am glad they are starting to open up without masks. I am looking forward to it.

See you in Atlanta, Georgia tomorrow!!
