Welcome to Savannah
I’ve had Georgia on my mind since we saw Clint Eastwood’s movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil based on a non-fiction by John Berent (his first book and still one of the longest standing New York Times Best Seller) always pulled me towards Savannah. The Spanish moss hanging of the Live Oak trees in Forsyth State Park is not invasive and it doesn’t kill the plants. It is sort of an “Air Plants.” It doesn’t stop at Live Oaks. It also hands off terraces, fences and sign posts. It’s graceful flowing makes the city look surreal making Savannah the most haunted city in North America.
We arrived early to our KOA South Savannah campsite and the weather was a pleasant 29 degrees (84 for the US) and mostly cloudy. Our site overlooked a cool green lake and I was disappointed that swimming was not allowed as there could be alligators. But I was able to video a graceful Great Egret and take pictures of a beautiful swan.
Our site was next to Serge and Carole are from Quebec and we became good friends. They love Savannah and gave us a plan of things to do during our brief stay. Because of them we extended our stay here and reduced our stay in Atlanta, Georgia.
After laundry at the campsite, Hussein was delighted to see a mobile truck and RV wash service at the park. 2 hours and $120 US later, The owner was from a local prison 22 years ago who had turned their life around through rehabilitation and mentorship. The youngster was on probation. It was good to see them do something like this. We sat inside while our RV was power-washed. By noon both the Beauty and the Beast were sparkling.
Evening was quiet as Hussein sat outside with our new friends and I finished up some calls and emails. A new first time home buyer wanted to understand the process of buying a home.
