DAY 8 – MAY 21st 2022, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Welcome to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

We stopped at a truck stop to fill up gas, air pressure, DEF and clean the windshield. A little TLC goes a long way.

When we arrived the Myrtle Beach, the bikers were in town for the Spring Bike week rally. Interestingly, none of them are wearing helmets!

The Barefoot RV Resort was right in North Myrtle Beach downtown. It is by far the best campground we stayed in so far. The resort was only 3 years old and our site happened to be right behind Al who maintained the grounds. He was from Ohio and was just wonderful. This was also our first “Back-In” site. We learned very quickly that we need “Pull Through sites” which are like circular driveways. Canada has very few pull through sites and back-in sites are small. At Provincial Campgrounds we have been through sites where campers have pulled back trees and removed sign posts just so we could park. USA is a land of BIG and big back in sites and large pull through sites are plentiful. State Parks so far only had back in sites but they were LARGE and a breeze to back into!

It took us many practice runs at the Canadian Tire in Milton when were living in our RV at NorHalton Family Campground during COVID19. The parking lot was empty because of the lockdowns. The truckers who rested at at the lot watched us “practice” came over and gave us tips. They were most helpful. Like this guy who backed in our Grand Design 310GK like a breeze!

We have seen truckers at rest stops snake in front of us and back in perfectly parallel to us in mere minutes while we stare at them shocked.

Most campers have this sign on the front yard and it is not unusual for couples to apologize for all that they said to each other while backing in. You find signs like this on the campgrounds! It is the the trailer park version of “people watching.”

The beach was a 10 minute bike ride away. We had a wonderful time riding the waves, playing with a water skipping ball and sunbathing. Same Atlantic Ocean as it was in North Carolina, same strip of beach yet the water was as warm as bath water. This is because of the Gulf of Mexico waters mixing with the Atlantic Ocean.

North Myrtle Beach is less busy, less commercial and less noisy than Myrtle Beach. There are fewer restaurants and entertainment. That is perfect for us!

Tomorrow we drive to town and get some supplies for the RV and go to the beach later in the day.
