We were ready for another adventure and we weren’t going to stop anytime soon. We actually made the commitment to ourselves that we would take part in as many adventures as possible. If we wanted to sit around we would have stayed home.
We decided that we would go on an adrenaline filled day of . This experience was located in Pigeon River which is in the Great Smoky Mountains. For those of you thinking to yourselves where is Pigeon River, it’s located near Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Asheville, and Maggie Valley.
The Nantahala Outdoor Centre (NOC) offers two different types of adventure seeking trips on Pigeon River. One of the adventure trips children as young as 3 can experience cool mountain .
We settled on the more thrilling excursion trip which is meant for those 8 and above. We definitely qualified for this amazing thrilling adventure. We found out that the season is from May-Sept. The whole trip lasts 2.5 hours which is a decent amount of time. This gives you enough time to have a magical and memorable experience.
The added bonus about this trip is that you get to see the lovely and jaw dropping scenery of the Smoky Mountains. It’s fairly inexpensive to take part in this journey of a lifetime which starts from $45USD.
We are definitely grateful that we had the ability to be able to take part in this amazing experience. The cool thing about our trip is that you’re given your own NOC guide. However, I believe that’s the case for any paid/organized trip that you take. That makes things easier and safer for all those involved. The trip that we took is 5 miles or 8km.
The Upper Pigeon River boasts remarkable rapids that don’t disappoint. For those of you that don’t know rapids are measured in a class system. The smallest possible rapid is 1 all the way up to 6. I would like to put this in perspective for you. The highest class of rapids is 6 which is equivalent to Niagara Falls.
We were paddling class III and IV rapids which is definitely nothing to sneeze at. The amazing thing is that we were all in when it came to this experience. They even come-up with clever names to call the dramatic sections of the rapids. It would be my guest that they want to draw your attention to these specific areas of the trip. The other possible reason is that they want you to stay engaged and excited to continue. Otherwise, maybe people would loose interest or get board easily.
Overall, we had a thrilling experience and would highly recommend that you do at least once in your life.
We’re glad that we did it!
